Smithsonian Design Triennial - Making Home

Dr. Harris is a collaborator with the architecture firm, Hord Coplan Macht for the 2024 Smithsonian Design Triennial – “Making Home”, featuring a newly commissioned site installation exploring design’s role in shaping the physical and emotional realities of home, memory, and aging.

The installation “Aging and The Meaning of Home” recreates a supportive living environment designed to support seniors with physical and mild cognitive impairments. The furnishings and lighting show how design can positively impact people’s comfort levels and enhance their abilities as they grow older.

Dr. Harris played an instrumental role in the development of personas that highlighted the dynamic interrelationships between interior architecture, sense of belonging, cultural identity, and cognitive health.
